Due to the increased student interest in cross country running as well as the excellent display of effort put forth by the students in preparation for our Annual Terry Fox Run, we would like to extend the offer to your child to be part of the Chinook Center Cross Country Running Team this year. Similar to Fit Club, students in grades 2-4 would run every Tuesday during the month of October from 3:30 pm- 4:10 pm weather permitting. Please note that there is no running club on Tuesday, October 16 as we are in a staff meeting that evening! The Cross Country Running Team is free of charge and is completely optional for your child. The Cross Country Running Team sessions will consist of a brief walk down to Tire Park, followed by a short warm-up on the playing field. We will then set off on our run along the bike path trails in and around Innisfail, and will end our run back at Chinook Center School. If your child would like to participate, please make sure to send you child to school with good running shoes and a water bottle that day.

Miss McBride & Mrs. Willigar
As we kissed the goat last year for our Terry’s Challenge, we had to think of something else for 2012…so our challenge for our kids this year was “If the students of CCS raise $1000…then the teachers will dye their hair hot pink!” Our students total this year was $1242 so they well surpassed their goal and were thrilled to see their teachers with the new do’s on Friday for the Terry Fox Run!! Congratulations CCS and thanks so much to all of our families for your support!
We will be participating in a Cross Campus & Community Wide Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 14, 2012 in the afternoon. We will be using the green space between Innisfail Jr/Sr High School and Ecole John Wilson Elementary School to complete our walking/running laps. Please watch your child’s SOS as we will be sending home this years Terry Fox Run Pledge Sheet which you can use if you wish to participate in fundraising this year. We will also have a “Tin for Terry” on Mrs. Willigar’s desk if you would like to drop off a donation. You will also find attached an “I’m Running For___” sticker and a Terry tattoo. If you have someone special in your life you would like to dedicate your run to please fill out your sticker and remember to bring it to wear on your shirt with pride during the Terry Fox Run on September 14th! We have entered Terry’s Challenge again this year and if the students of CCS meet our fundraising goal……ask your child what the teachers will have to do this year!!
This year Miss Teare’s grade 3/4 students took home the Chinook Center Cup. They clearly demonstrated this in that they were CCS- Cooperative, Caring & Safe throughout the entire floor hockey unit. Although there were some great contenders which made the decision very tough, this year Miss McBride presented the cup to the grade 3/4’s. Congratulations guys and good luck to all of next year’s contenders!
It is that time of year again to think about all of the fun summer activities upon us as we look forward to the coming summer holidays. It is also almost that time of year for grade two, three and four students to be part of the CCS Fit Club. Fit Club is an after school program designed for our older students which will run Tuesdays during the month of June from 3:30 pm- 4:15 pm weather permitting. Each week we will have a specific activity planned, and students can sign up for one day or all four depending on your family’s schedule. Fit Club is free of charge and is completely optional for your child. This year’s dates and activities are as follows:
Tuesday, June 5th “Bike Day”
For our bike day fit club this year, we will be taking a bike ride through the bike trails around Innisfail. Students must be able to provide their own bike, and must be wearing a helmet. Students will also be expected to be able to follow the bike safety rules learned during our previous year’s project times.
Tuesday, June 12th “Soccer Day”
Soccer day will be a fun cooperative soccer game on our new playground surface! This will be a structured soccer game with soccer nets, pinnies and referees. Please make sure to bring a water bottle and good running shoes.
Tuesday, June 19th “Running Day”
Running day fit club will consist of a brief walk down to Tire Park, followed by a short warm-up on the playing field. We will then set off on our run along the bike path trails in and around Innisfail, and will end our run back at Chinook Center School. Please make sure to bring good running shoes and a water bottle.
